Glenn Beck chose an intriguing way to raise the flag during the opening of his innovative Man in the Moon event on Saturday. Rather than taking the traditional route, two men dressed in soldiers’ garb who were suspended in the air upside down actually “lowered” the American flag.
The fascinating move, which lasted minutes, technically featured the flag being raised — but the upside down display means it was lowered for the audience.
The suspended soldiers eventually reversed the flag, folded it, and then walked off stage while still suspended.
While on the surface it was a curious display, the expression was symbolic — an effort to show that America is in distress, which Beck explained when he took the stage a few minutes later.
